Natural Air Freshener and Deodorizer Home Hack from H&P Artistry

Natural Air Freshener and Deodorizer Home Hack from H&P ArtistryNatural Air Freshener and Deodorizer

It’s time for a good old-fashioned Home Hack. I like to make Homemade products when I can because it is safer for the environment and lighter on my wallet. This Natural Air Freshener and Deodorizer recipe is both. The key to making these items at home is to know what to expect from the final product. Most store-bought products have artificial colors and fragrances that are enhanced to last longer and smell stronger. Natural air fresheners have a very light scent and because of the backing soda absorb more scent than they release. This mixture is best placed in bathrooms, closets, or any area that tends to smell musty, closed up, or damp.

Recipe

1 8 oz or smaller jar with canning lid

1/2 – 3/4 cup baking soda
1 tbsp Lavender dried
5 – 15 drops essential oil depending on scent strength
Scissors

Step 1

Fill the jar with 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup baking soda.

Baking soda absorbs and helps to eliminate unwanted odors. It is a good idea to place an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator to absorb food odors. Do Not Use The refrigerator baking soda for cooking once stored in the refrigerator.

Trace the sealing lid on to the Burlap and cut the circle out.

If you do not have burlap you can use a piece of decorative paper and poke holes in it to let the scent through.

Put the burlap into the open lid with out the seal.

Step 7

Replace the lid and place in the chosen room to freshen the air. You may need to add essential oil occasionally to boos the scent. You will also need to replace the sealing lid and shake the mixture every week or so to keep the baking soda from clumping up.

Replace the mixture every 30 days to 3 months depending on the moisture in the room being deodorized.

Construction Paper Flags Kids Craft from H&P Artistry

Construction Paper Flags Kids Craft

Construction Paper Flags Kids Craft

It is time for the start of school so I thought I would share a fun learning craft the Construction Paper Flags Kids Craft. You can make a specific flag and learn about that nation or culture. Once the child understands the meaning of the parts of a flag they can create there own flag and explain why they choose the specific design elements for their flag. We used scotch tape for our flag because my little helper just LOVES Scotch tape but your can use your favorite kid safe glue.

How to make a Paper Crown

How to make a Paper Crown

This weeks Kids Craft is How to make a Paper Crown. The paper crown looks complicated but it isn’t. My 6-year-old assistant made her crown all by herself. I showed her how to fold the pieces on my crown and she made the folds for her own. After the first few folds she had the order memorized. I, of course, want to attribute her folding skills to her being a genius and having my genetics (she is my niece) but really it is that simple to make. Continue reading

Stars and Stripes Banner

The Stars and Stripes Banner and Printable is a quick and simple way to add a little detail to a gathering. This craft is also a fun way to get the kinds involved in decorating for a party. Supervise the kids with scissors or cut out the banner flags prior to having them put the banner together.  I recommend having the kids glue the ribbon in place and not use a stapler. Watch the YouTube video at the end of the tutorial for a project walk-through. Continue reading
