DIY Photo Board from H&P Artistry
I have a fun craft that you can do with the kids today a DIY Photo Board. It is for kids that are a little older because you are using hot glue. This tutorial is another fun craft inspired by my Aunt Cynthia. To this day we still do crafts when we go to parties at her house. This is the photo/cork board I made at one of her tea parties.
The original board has a top layer of cork to turn the photo board into a cork pin board. Today we are making the Photo board version.
Fabric – an inch or two larger that the size of the board you want
Cutting tool or scissors
Mark and cut out 2 foam board squares. My squares are 9.5″ x 9.5″.
Cut your fabric 1 to 2 inches larger than your square. Lay the fabric out wrong side up and center the foam board on top. If you want a cork board use cork for the first layer of the board.
Hot glue two opposite sides in place and press firmly to seal. Then fold in the corners in to form a triangle. glue the triangle flat. Do this for all 4 corners.
Glue the remaining sides in place. Make sure you are pulling the fabric taught as you glue.
Make sure the fabric is smooth.
I chose to glue the second piece in place first because I want you to see how I glue the ribbon in place. You can glue the ribbon in place first and them glue the backing in place. If you want a super clean look cover the backing with fabric as well.
Adding the second board doubles the thickness. This makes the board more substantial and protects your walls from pin scratches if you plan to use it as a pin board.
Glue you ribbon hangar to the top of the board. If your fabric is directional make sure you are gluing it right side of the pattern up.
Measure your ribbon pieces and decide on your placement. Make sure the ribbon is long enough to wrap around to the back.
Glue the ribbon in place. I start with my center ribbon and work all in one direction first. Use the edge of your craft scissors or a chop stick to hold the ribbon in place while hot gluing. Make sure the ribbon is pulled tightly across the fabric before you glue.
It is up to you how far apart and how many rows you want.
Weave the ribbons going in the opposite direction through the already secured ribbons. Alternate going over and under the first rows of ribbon. This gives you a place to put your photos.
Make sure the second set of ribbons are pulled tightly and glued securely. If you have not secures the second board you can do so now and it will cover up all the glued ribbon on the back. If you doubled your board the way I did you can still cut out a square of fabric and glue it neatly to the back and cover the cross over of ribbon.
You can add a large square of magnet to the back and use it in a locker or on a refrigerator to hold notes, photos, or grocery lists.
Add pins or small clips to help secure the photos and you are ready to hang it up. You can even use the decorative clothes pins I make a few weeks back.
