Flag Day T-Shirt Tutorial
Today’s Flag Day T-Shirt Tutorial is a fun way to Celebrate Flag Day by making a A Flag t-shirt. You can follow the sewing tutorial below or use hot glue or fusible webbing to apply the design. Sewing is the most durable and detailed way to apply the Rick Rack and fabric. My Niece wore this one to their Flag Day celebration at school.
This would also be fun to use for the Fourth of July. You can change up the design and colors to make shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day, colored eggs or bunnies for Easter.
1 t-shirt – I used an extra small youth t-shirt from Hobby Lobby to fit a 5-year-old. (Wash all fabric and t-shirt before sewing)
Star fabric – enough for a 5″ square before trimming (This is a great way to use up old fabric or worn out clothes)
Rick Rack – 1 package I used large (A cute way to make Easter eggs is to use different sizes and colors of Rick Rack.)
Basic sewing materials
Cut square from the star fabric. I used my 4.5″ square ruler
For added decoration and to decrease fraying trim with pinking shears. You can also use fray check if you want smoother edges.
Pin the square in place.
Measure and cut the Ric Rac. Layout each line to the desired length and cut.
Pin the Ric Rac in place.
Sew using a straight stitch and matching thread.
If you have a removable base you may want to remove it to make the sewing easier.
Trim the loose threads
as you wash the t-shirt the edges may fray a little. I think that adds to the beauty of the project.
My niece loves bows so I added a lace bow to the corner of the flag.
