Coconut Oil Lip Gloss DIY
I love this lip gloss recipe because my lips get terribly chapped in the winter. I especially love it for kids, because it is all natural, cost-effective, simple to customize, and easy to make. The Kiddo helps me make it and her friends love the flavors and the little containers.
All you need is…
1 packet of Kool-Aid or flavored drink mix
1 Tbsp of Coconut Oil (Petroleum Jelly for a more lasting gloss)
1 Tbsp of powdered sugar add more or less to taste. The sugar is important because the powdered drink mix is lip puckeringly tart with out it.
1/4 cup of Warm water to dissolve the Kool-Aid powder. If you want a more intense flavor and color use less water. 1/4 of a cup offers a light flavor and pastel color.
1 Container – I found .75 fluid ounce pots at the pharmacy in the travel section.
Mix the Water, Kool-Aid, and sugar in a cup. Make sure to dissolve all the sugar and powder in the liquid.
Put 1 tbsp of the coconut oil in a bowl. Add 1/4 of a tsp of the liquid mixture to the coconut oil and mix well. If you want a stronger flavor or pigment add 1/4 of a teaspoon more and mix well.
Spoon your mixture into the pot and let set up.
Coconut oil melts/softens with body temperature, mixing, and the warm water. For a quick set put the pot in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
Tip: If you want a more glossy or longer lasting lip gloss use petroleum jelly instead of the coconut oil. The coconut oil solidifies in the pot when stored in a cool dry place (If the coconut oil gets warm it becomes soft.) and the petroleum jelly stays in gel form.
I like the coconut because it feels more natural and I do not worry if my younger nieces accidentally (on purpose) eat it.
