Stars and Stripes Banner
The Stars and Stripes Banner and Printable is a quick and simple way to add a little detail to a gathering. This craft is also a fun way to get the kinds involved in decorating for a party. Supervise the kids with scissors or cut out the banner flags prior to having them put the banner together. I recommend having the kids glue the ribbon in place and not use a stapler. Watch the YouTube video at the end of the tutorial for a project walk-through.

Print out the printable. Use card stock or photo paper for a more long-lasting banner. Printer paper works well for a one time use banner.
Cut out the individual pieces. For double-sided banner flags glue opposite colored flags to one another and trim any excess paper.
Choose the ribbon. I picked out a sparkly gift wrap ribbon to give the feel of fireworks. Cut the ribbon to the length of the needed banner. Add a few inches to the ends for hanging the banner. Follow the instructions below on how to curl or straighten ribbon.
To curl ribbon line up the cutting side of the scissors with the back (non decorative side) of the ribbon.
Pull gently to the end of the ribbon.
Straightening the Ribbon
To straighten ribbon line up the cutting side of the scissors with the front (decorative side) of the ribbon.
Pull to the end of the ribbon to straighten. If the ribbon does not straighten completely run it across the scissors again. DO not pull the ribbon through more than twice or it will begin to curl again.
You can position the ribbon in the front of the flag
or to the back. If making a double-sided banner position the ribbon in-between the two flags before gluing or stapling together.
Line up the ribbon with the top of the flag. Leave a few inches on the end for hanging.
Staple or glue the ribbon in place.
Staple once on each side of the flag to keep the ends from curling in on itself.
Keep the flags equally separated from one another. I choose 2″ spacing between each flag. Curl a few other colors of ribbon and add them to the ends of the banner to give a feel of fireworks.
