Valentines Mail Box Paper Craft
The kids love having new ways to carry their valentines. It is even more fun to have a cool delivery method. A few years ago we made large envelopes to go on the backs of the kid’s classroom chairs and each child delivered their cards and goodies by dropping the treats into each persons envelope. This year I decided to share a different and even more fun option.
A paper Mail box. You can change-up the design in lots of ways by adding a flag to the side with a brad, or using thick coloring book paper. I use a hot glue gun for this tutorial but you can use a glue stick. The only change you need to make is to fold the 6″ sides of the mail box top in 1″ to make flaps to hold the glue. You then glue to the under side of the base.
You can download the Valentine’s Day Cards from this post, the Valentine Bookmarks or both to make your Valentines this year.
You will need:
2 sheets of card stock
1″ Velcro tab
Decorations (Stickers, decorative tape, markers etc.)
Mark your sheets
Mark and cut out your first sheet.
1 – 8.5″ x 6″ for the top of the mail box
1 – 1″ x 2″ for the tab closure
Mark your second sheet.
1 – 6″ x 3.5″ for the base
2 – 3.75″ x 4.75″ for the back and front covers
Glue the top to bottom on the 6″ sides.
Let the glue set well before curving to glue the second side.
Make sure the glue is as close to the edge as possible. If you need more space or are using a glue gun – fold the 6″ sides in by 1″ and put the glue on the inside of the tab. then press the base on the tab at the fold. the same way you hinge the front of the mail box. This will have the folds and glue hidden on the under side of the base.
Front and back
Glue the back in place first by putting the glue on the box a little bit at a time. then trim away the excess paper.
For the Front hinged part of the mail box fold the short end under 1/4″ and glue the tab on the under side of the base. Line up and trim away the excess paper to form the curve.
Fold the 1″ x 2″ tab in half and glue one side to the center top of the hinged opening.
Put your soft Velcro tab on the hinge tab and the hooked tab on the center, top front of the box. The Velcro will hold the box closed.
Decorate your box(s) however you like. I used Fashion tape for trim and reinforcement labels for polka dots. Valentine stickers would work great.
No fill with your Valentines and enjoy.
